Issues
As a member of the West Des Moines City Council, I am working hard to
Hold the line on property taxes by:
- Continually prioritizing and evaluating the effectiveness of programs and services.
- Maintaining a strong commercial tax base to ease residents’ share of the total property tax burden.
- Partnering with surrounding local governments where practicable to provide services more effectively and efficiently.
- Outsourcing services where practicable.
- Maintaining our AAA bond rating to keep borrowing costs low.
Maintain quality services by:
- Ensuring we do not neglect the infrastructure and public safety needs of existing neighborhoods.
- Maintaining our road, water and sewer infrastructure.
- Making sure our police, fire and EMS departments have what they need to provide adequate public safety.
Enhance our quality of life by:
- Maintaining our parks and trails.
- Guarding against traffic congestion as the city continues to grow.
- Evaluating the need for new facilities.
Effectively manage growth by:
- Following the comprehensive plan as consistently as possible.
- Maintaining a good balance of commercial, retail and residential property.
